The Enemy Within...
Chike wiped his eyes carefully, twice, to make sure he was seeing properly. Yes, there it was, this was no joke, Amanda was indeed getting
married, and it wasn't to him. His lips parted slightly, as this information sunk in, thoughts spiraled through his subconscious, and he absent-mindedly dropped the invitation card he was holding. Kunle, his friend, just walked in towards him and picked up the card.
Chike said, "Kunle, so you knew about this and you didn't tell me."
His friend replied, "Honestly, I'm almost as surprised as you are, I got the card yesterday. I know you liked her, dude, guess some other guy beat you to it."
"Liked her? Dude, I was in love with her. You know we have all been friends since childhood, I just didn't know how to tell her, I was scared of loosing our friendship. Each time, I say to myself, 'Chike, you'll tell her today', Somehow, I just couldn't summon the courage, and days went into weeks and months, and now this."
"I feel for you, bro." His friend said, patting his back...
Do you feel for him? I guess it's normal to experience fear, I mean, we all do, even the boldest of all. He simply allowed the enemy within called procrastination to take control.
I once saw an Indian flick called 'Break ke Baad'. The lady in question (spoiler alert!) exhibited so much 'shakara', until his wedding day, lol, it was a really nice, well-plotted story. So, she comes begging at his place, on his wedding day, only to find out at the end that it was her wedding and her name was actually on the card. She was lucky he knew her so well, that her 'no' meant 'yes'. But then, that's a movie, let's come back to reality.
There are a few quotes a well known procrastinator should hold dearly and close to his heart. They are:
=> Do not leave that which can be done today till tomorrow.
=> If you won't make sacrifices for what you want, what you want will soon be the sacrifice.
=> Make hay while the sun shines.
=> Go after what you want, or someone else will.
The list is endless; we all are guilty of procrastination at one point or another, at one degree or another. But, in making conscious effort, procrastination can be reduced to the barest minimum.
